I celebrate my one year anniversary in Minnesota in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge for an evening of landscape photography. So proud to call this place my new home! It’s been a long journey to get here, and well worth the wait. I am proud to be a Minnesotan! And there’s no better place to celebrate my one year Minnesotan birthday that up at the lake cabin with my wife, Krista and our golden doodle, Willy. It’s not too often I can head out for 20 minutes in the backyard and shoot amazing landscapes and be back before dinner. Such an amazing treat!

One of the strengths of digital medium format is true 16-bit capture without an antialiasing filter… important in showcasing subtle beauty of the Tamarac trees turning subtle yellow foliage before dropping needles for the winter hibernation.

100% view of the above image. Wowza. I would make a print of this little crop! The temperature dropped quickly, so much that frost began forming in the shadows.

I fueled up in a small town, went inside to pay and was greeted by friendly folks eager to share a homegrown squash pumpkins ready for environmental portrait:

Love shooting the PhaseOne IQ 140 with B&W landscapes. It’s a Pinot Noir of camera capture. Delicate, subtle, sophisticated.

White waiting for the light, I encountered two white-tailed deer and a beaver. Such a wonderful experience!

This blog post inspired by Willy and the American Larch (Tamarac) I planted in the spring at the lake cabin on Bad Medicine Lake, now almost doubled in size. Happy times!wpid-Tamarac-NWR-MN-9-2012-10-12-00-20.jpg Technical notes : All landscape images created with the PhaseOne 645 DF / PhaseOne IQ 140 back / Schneider-Kreuznach 55mm LS lens.
