The tomten made their SIXTH holiday appearance today. The surprise annual event usually happens after the halls are officially decked, the tree is lit, the littles ones are asleep, and the smell of fresh cookies linger in the kitchen air. Each tomte takes on a new personality to ring in the holiday cheer.
In 2016, the tomten have been particularly brazen: they’ve made their first appearance around humans. Two have even voyaged to a new homestead (in progress). For the first time, a few brave little tomten befriended our littlest one, now almost 10 months. They’ve been inspired by recent Kern family activities, around the lake, across the pond (Germany), on the toilet, and at a tea party (with a very special table setting). We’ve had to say good-bye this year to a few special people in our family who we will always miss.

We are thankful to smile and welcome two new loved ones into the family. Enjoy the biggest post yet.
