Kirsten & Marc {Boulder, CO}

Powered by leftover cheese and meat scraps, Tucker’s tail says it all: He’s one happy Boulder dog.

My dog Willy gazes at the computer screen as I edit these photos from Kirsten and Marc’s engagement session in Boulder, Colorado. I can only imagine what Willy ponders, “Tucker looks like a friendly buddy.” He sure is!

Picking The Spot
Perfect dog-friendly picnic spots are plentiful in the area described as “16 square miles surrounded by reality,” of which draws me to love my stomping grounds even more. Unless, of course, the city shuts down all parks and trails due to flooding. Steady persistence pays off, we remind ourselves, a key ingredient for bad weather turned perfect.

Our predicament, deemed as a “First World Concern,” forced us to be creative in search of the perfect engagement session location. After three failed attempts of choosing a “legal location,” we found the perfect spot nestled at the base of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), steps from the yellow tape we kept encountering. How ironic. A dim voice from a grad school lectures echoes in my brain as it echoed in those halls of academia. Something about a global climate change impacting extremes of weather and insurance claims….  Looking around at the autumnal grasses, you wouldn’t know that the area had been the sight of extreme, historic flooding!

Except that the grass was greener on both sides of the fence from 18” of rainfall. The silver lining, prevails.

Rolling With It
We are about as far from the ocean in North America as one can get, yet I am reminded of the feeling getting tossed by a wave on my surfboard. Struggling causes muscle tension. Rolling with it, you surface, hopeful to catch another.

Yet, there’s something truly magical working with people eager to share their attitude and a sunny disposition like Kirsten and Marc. And their dog, Tucker, reflects their positive energy even more.

With a sense of humor, we created memories and images to grow old with, along side their Burning Man faux-fur coats, LED blinkies, a picnic packed with love, chocolate, snacks, and great wine. Tucker savored what few food leftovers remained at the of our shoot. What fun! I look forward to more fun times ahead with this super cute couple.
