We Are Alpha

Trick or Treat?

This year Krista thought it was a good idea to dress will up as a 80’s jogger for Halloween. Not. My. Idea.

I stole Krista’s and morphed it into a dual costume: We Are Alpha Dogs, inspired by my Alpha Training program.

Not the most original costume, but practical. It serves as honor to my best running companion I know: Willy. My creativity outside photography goes straight into container gardening and schemes to watch movies and play pingpong. Willy is the best Alpha dog I could dream for and he’s pretty darn good at marking his territory several times as we run around the lake.

We Are Alpha
The real reason I chose this as my costume is that I’ve been doing Alpha Training for almost a year. I love it.

The cross-fit style workouts at Lifetime Fitness are essentially metabolic conditioning in focused periods of time, approx in 25-35 minutes to build strength, endurance, and power in what normally would take 90 minutes on a normal routine. Unlike Cross-fit, periodization occurs over a three-month period. Each month focuses on one particular component like functional strength, speed & agility, endurance, or power using many exercises with body weight (box jumps, pull-ups, push-ups). I really like the planned workouts the chain together over longer-term for results I see and feel.  I show up twice a week, turn my brain off, focus on my body. The results can benefit almost any sport like martial arts or snowboarding and really help with long days holding gear in my wedding photography. As a technical person, I’ve really enjoyed learning the Olympic lifts such as clean, press, jerks, squats, and deadlift and have beat out all my personal records I set in college 15 years ago! And Brian Fox, personal trainer, is one heck of a guy and trainer. Congrats again on pulling off an epic surprise engagement proposal!

Pumpkin Treats
While our urban veggie garden has officially seen better days, I’m proud to save a few bucks by growing our heirloom pumpkins. Yes, we had a pumpkin patch in our back alley, which made opening the car door a tad difficult for a few weeks, but the results were worth it! Happy Halloween!

‘Treat’ is among Willy’s favorite words. When the door bell rings tonight, he’ll hear more of his favorite word over and over again. As a dog-friendly house, there will be special treats for dogs tonight! Happy Halloween!
