Postcard from a Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Yesterday, I shot my first wedding in the land of the Minnesota Nice. This image from Kate and Mark’s wedding was perfectly apropos. I love the phrase, “ You are the artist, this is your canvas.” Love it almost as much as the time we spent together. I can see clearly the possibilities and appreciate the grand memories, considering this wedding was a gift for such special friends. Stay tuned soon for the full post. I dig the 1950s feel: wpid-minneapolis-wedding-photograper-kate-mark-2012-06-3-00-55.jpg

Gear Notes :: This photo shot with the Phase One P30+ and 645DF w/ Schneider 80mm LS. Lit with an Alien Bee 1600 at 1/2 power with reflector facing clients. I didn’t have a light stand handy, so I propped the flash on the back a pickup truck about 20 feet to the left of the image. Camera settings were at 1/400 sec at f/6.3, ISO 100, the top of the shutter sync speed I felt comfortable using with my Pocketwizard II remote triggers (those little devices are the limiting reagent to obtaining 1/800 shutter sync until an IQ back is possible). 30 degree reflector served a bare bulb reflector to help draw the eye to a bit more contrast to the painted mural background (on cinder block). Shot at about 4pm sun with sun almost directly overhead, but thankfully just behind the building and enough to cast a shadow my lens but not enough to create a rim light. I wish I could give props to the local artist that painted the mural downtown Minneapolis, a perfect backdrop for a wedding photograph for a Minnesota wedding in June.
