Who? : Stephanie + Ian

What? : Ceremony and reception at a tiki bar Minneapolis wedding venue

Where? : Psycho Suzi’s, Minneapolis, MN

When? : October 2018

A bride who dissected a cat for a university class and kept the brain. A groom who will be remembered as “my handsome husband breaking it down to ‘What’s Going On’ by Four Non Blonds and yelling so loudly that he was horse for a week.” Add these two amazing, scientifically-aligned, taco-truck driven human beings together, bind their love with an unwavering faith, and pledge forever to each other at a tiki bar in Minneapolis. That’s right. While most Midwest brides say “I do” under flawless Minnesota fall foliage while surrounded by an unseasonably warm day, these party people skip the formalities and jump right to the fun!

Stephanie and Ian, you’re perfect just as you are. Thank you for making that fall Minnesota day all the brighter and fun!

When Stephanie is 80, about the time of her 80th wedding anniversary, she won’t forget, “how perfect of an evening it was. What enormous effort was put into it by everyone involved, and how, despite not being what most people would call ‘traditional’, we pulled it off and everyone enjoyed it immensely. From driving to the wedding in the world’s most uncomfortable moving truck, the taco truck rehearsal (which included everyone invited to the wedding), getting ready with my Mom, Oma, MIL, and best friends in the world, Amanda, Leah, and Mike (what a trooper to get ready with the ladies!), dancing the night away with bare feet and increasingly erratic dance moves, to fire bowls surrounding the dance floor – it was the best day and night of my life.”

Let’s not forget her friend, Matt, wrapped up like a mummy in raffle tickets. Documented proudly in the fun-booth here. And she absolutely loves that her Grandfather Bill took her out for a dance, too!

I asked Ian what he loved the most about his tiki wedding and he said: “I consistently was caught off guard by how proud I was to have such wonderful friends. Our ragtag group that considers ourselves a bit too goofy and maybe a bit too old for some of our behavior, we sure can “put on airs.” He continues, “Everyone was simply proud to be there supporting us and made the day fun.”

“My groomsmen killed their speeches,” he proclaimed. I loved my wife even more because “She loves her mother, her close friends, and her pets. I genuinely enjoyed her company and clarity.”

How did Ian really know when they felt like their wedding day arrived?

“The significance of getting married only fully sunk in when we were getting ready in the morning,” said Ian. “There was a point where the guys were getting ready and it was me, my brother, and my father in the room.  Brody brought colorful socks. It was then I first realized that this day was an important day in their lives, too.”

Here are a few of my favorite images from their wedding:
