Cheryl & Dan {Editorial Engagement Session}

Cheryl contacted me months ago in search of something different for their engagement session in Victoria, MN. As movie buffs, they naturally were drawn to the look of my cinematic portraits. She likes wine, he loves music and hi-fi, together they love cinema…. all key ingredients for our shoot. We started in the backyard of their new home, explored the neighborhood, ending up in their basement enjoying a bottle of wine and music. They were a joy to work with, open to all sorts of creative ideas including an editorial-style engagement session to something you might see on the cover of Wired or Forbes magazines. We transformed their basement into a studio, complete with a fog machine for drama and atmosphere, siting the work of a few of my photographic heroes including Richard Avedon’s use of a corner, JoeyL’s approach to photographing women, and Dan Winters lighting and posing. I can already see their epic wedding day images in my head and can’t wait to make them!
